Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on college students with intellectual disability

BACKGROUND: The lived experiences of adults with intellectual disability (ID) during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) need to be considered when developing and implementing support for maintaining quality life outcomes this population. OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted capture analyze adults’ ID COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: A qualitative focus groups that included two ID; graduated (N = 4) enrolled 5) students from a postsecondary education (PSE) program. Questions were formulated based on societal feature areas may affected unplanned historical events. Data analyzed utilizing Vivo coding. RESULTS: Four themes (employment, daily living, social, well-being) eleven subthemes emerged interviews. Participants described impact COVID-19, such as learning, new procedures in workplace, taking increased responsibilities at home, uncertainty their future. CONCLUSIONS: Findings indicated established before events maintain productive members society. Implications include immediate systems.
